The Cheltenham Street Race & Expo
The Vision
The Cheltenham Street Race will highlight the rapid advances in low-carbon transport, through the exciting format of a street race and time trial through the streets of Cheltenham. All vehicles competing will be low-carbon, using exclusively fossil-free fuels with a number of different scientifically based criteria utilised to determine the winner in a number of categories.
The Sustainable Expo 2012
Transport, Automotive and Motorsports come together in the setting of Regency Cheltenham and on an agenda of The Low Carbon Economy.
An exciting and engaging weekend that will educate, inform and promote discussion around the sustainable and Low Carbon future and how these key industries are embracing it.
The event will feature:
- The Diamond Jubilee Cavalcade
- The Street Race Circuit
- The Commercial Zone
- The Legacy Zone
- The Education Zone
- The Theatre Zone
The Cheltenham Street Race 2013
The Cheltenham Street Race 2013 will build on the Sustainable Expo 2012 and introduce a “Regulated Road Race”.
In addition to the Zones described in the Expo, the Street Circuit will be commissioned for Saturday and Sunday and the classifications for low carbon measurements, data collection and measurement being developed by Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University will be introduced. There will be no time based measurements and participants will be confined to conventional road legislation, readings and awards will be based purely on driving, mechanical and team efficiency and low carbon usage.
The proposed circuit is based in the centre of Cheltenham incorporating the Promenade, Town Hall, Royal Well Road and Imperial Square.
There will be a 'motor sports village' positioned along the circuit (proposed for The Long Gardens) that will provide hospitality and key exhibitions and attractions. Cheltenham MotorSports already has key media partners and hope to attract additional partners to see the event televised.
The Cheltenham Street Race 2014
A performance motorsports street race (subject to legislation) based around Low Carbon classifications and performance Motorsport.
Subject to the successful Royal Assent of our Act of Parliament, in 2014, we introduce performance motorsports. All activity on the circuit will be regulated by the MSA under licence and timed participants will be required to hold an MSA driver’s license. With the act superseding the existing highways legislation for a specific period at the weekend, the MSA licensed circuit will have approved protection and safety measures to allow time trials to be introduced.
With the event at full specification, this will be a globally unique event presenting the future of low carbon technology in Automotive and Motor Sports. A hugely important Engineering and technological event and an exciting spectacle. By creating a tension between measurable low carbon usage, low energy usage and automotive performance, this will be a sustainable event that will always be probing the leading technological edges in this area.
