Evolution of the Event
The Event was conceived by the Rotary Club of Cheltenham North who approached Pete Allison, Managing Director of E&MS about the feasibility of holding a motor sports event on the streets of Cheltenham. This conversation led to Dr Gill Rouse, fundraiser for the Rotary Club and Pete being commissioned to found Cheltenham MotorSports as a limited Company and setting about the planning needed to bring this ambitious event to life. Plans quickly gained pace with a number of Cheltenham based Companies joining a management team and a board of advisors to help deliver the project.
In order for this event to take place there must be a private bill passed through parliament that allows for the racing to be held on public roads. This is one of the factors that have led to the full road race being scheduled for 2014. Action is already being taken to get this act taken through both houses in parliament; you can see full details on this on The Legislation page of this website.
As interest has grown additional sponsors have come on board and the founding members have been working to gain support of local government, police and the community.
The Sustainable Expo in 2012 will bring together the Motor Sports, Motor Manufacturing and Transport industries in the setting of Cheltenham and the context of sustainability and the low carbon future. The 2012 event is intended to provide an exciting and engaging experience for members of the public and an event to develop and encourage business-to-business relationships. It aims to contribute to and catalyse the development of future Sustainable Street Race events as well as the sustainable and low-carbon development of Cheltenham and the South West region.
